The 7th SharePoint Saturday Vietnam held on last Saturday, January 11, 2014 has been put into the list of successful SharePoint event in our history book. With SharePoint attraction, lots of geeks came join to discuss about Microsoft SharePoint platform with speakers and peers.
This event the team picked up two topics among many topic submissions: Power Pivot for SharePoint and SharePoint 2013 branding as each would be one of the most promising topics in the near future. Mr. Tri Nguyen from Officience kicked off the event by sharing his experience on how to utilize Microsoft SQL Server Power Pivot in SharePoint context to build reports quickly. The use of Power Pivot in SharePoint is to leverage collaboration and document management for Power Pivot workbooks. With Power Pivot’s capabilities, your business users now can easily build reports that can process billions of data rows without any worries about performance. Sound unreliable? Check out this video to see how Power Pivot process large amounts of data quickly. During Tri’s session, many great questions were raised. One of them was to be asked about the roadmap of becoming Microsoft SharePoint BI master.
Mr. Khoa from Niftit delivered the last two sessions on starting SharePoint 2013 branding from the scratch to leveraging web technologies in high-level design. In his presentation, Khoa introduced the new tool named Design Manager. Prior to SharePoint 2010, SharePoint Designer (SPD) was the most used tool for branding. As of the release of SharePoint 2013, SPD has been fallen into oblivion due to the lack of Design View. With Design Manager, you can fully have all aspects of your custom design in a central place. Khoa provided us several best practices for making better user experience in SharePoint deployment. With the more advanced topic, Khoa showed the attendees how bootstrap could help provide a mobile friendly base to SharePoint intranet and some languages that would be indispensable to branding, such as SPServices.js, SOAP.
At the even, I was excited to meet Mr. Liem – a senior SharePoint developer. Liem is currently living and working for VMD System Integrators based in Washington DC. He just came back to Vietnam for the upcoming lunar new year 2014 with his family.
There have been many positive feedback from attendees. Many heartfelt thanks have been sent to all of the sponsors as well as the community. You guys keep getting the SharePoint Vietnam community growing up every minute.
Personally I would like to sincerely thank Khoa and the Niftit team for the contribution. Khoa flew from the USA to Vietnam to meet up and talk about SharePoint at the event. The event wouldn’t have been successful without his engagement.
P.S: the slide-decks and photos are being uploaded in the SPSVN website.
